Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative Runs Ad Campaign to Support Internet Gambling

The Safe and Secure Internet Gambling recently launched a brand new Internet ad campaign in order to show support for the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009, which is legislation that would create a blueprint to let gambling operators that had a license to accept wagers from residents in the United States. These ads advocate not only the legalization of Internet gambling in the U.S., but also the regulation of the industry. The regulation of Internet gambling would protect the millions living in the U.S. that keep gambling over the Internet even though the government prohibits doing so. If the U.S. were to regulate the Internet gambling industry they would be able to collect around $60 billion in revenues for the government over the first 10 years.

Jeffrey Sandman, who is a spokesperson for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, recently stated, “As Congress searches for ways to pay for health care reform and other worthy programs, it should end the unsuccessful prohibition of Internet gambling and start collecting taxes on the billions in revenue currently lost to unlicensed, offshore gambling operators.”

U.S. Representative Barney Frank, who is the House Committee of Financial Services Chairman and leading advocate of the regulation and legalization of online gambling, recently announced that he looks to hold a congressional hearing in the fall for the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009.Since Frank introduced legislation in May of this year a bi-partisan group of in excess of 50 co-sponsors have showed their support by signing onto Frank’s bill. Some of the senior ranking representatives in Congress that have signed onto Franks bill include, George Miller (Chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor), John Conyers, (Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary), Edolphus Towns (Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform), Pete King (ranking member of the Homeland Security Committee), and Ron Paul (Vice Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations subcommittee.

The ads will be shown in major publications such as the Washington Post and The Hill and Politico as well as in other publications such as the Political Wire, the Talking Points Memo and the Huffington Post.
