.: Deuces Wild Video Poker Review
Deuces wild is one of the best known video poker variations played across the world. While standard
video poker, like Jacks or Better, has no wild cards, Deuces Wild has 4
in the deck. All the 2's in the deck are considered wild. Wild cards make obtaining bigger hands easier,
adding to the excitement of this fun game. It certainly is exciting being able to make a royal flush,
even if it only pays 25:1 if you use wild cards to make it. There lies the catch - the paytables
and winning hands have been reduced to keep the payout on par with other video poker variants.
Also, try the 100 hand version of deuces wild - when you are dealt a deuce, it carries through each of the
100 hands generated after you decide which cards to discard!
.: Deuces Wild Video Poker Strategy
Playing optimal strategy at a full pay video poker machine, will actually yield an advantage to the
player. You read that right - playing with the optimal strategy, you should win money once all the
highs and lows are averaged together. Optimal strategy is easier than most games without wild cards, too!
This explaination isn't true optimal strategy, but an overview. Memorizing optimal strategy is not easy,
and these generalizations are typically good enough, especially considering the limited number of
hands we are playing, so the luck of the draw plays a bigger influence. If you are playing thousands of
hands, then the law of averages kicks in.
Deuces in Your Hand: If you are dealt a hand with deuces, your off to a great start. 4 Deuces is a
great hand and should be held. With three deuces, only a pat royal flush would change the strategy. Hold
the deuces and draw! If you have 2 deuces, that is still a really great starting hand! Hold both deuces only,
unless you have a 4 of a kind, or 4 to a straight flush (or royal flush, of course!). With a single
deuce, things start to get interesting. Keep any made hand, whether that hand is a three of a kind or
better. Definitely go after a straight flush if you have 3 or 4 towards the hand. If none of those
fit your hand, then just hold the single deuce and draw 4 new cards.
No Deuces: With no wild cards in your hand, you head into the draw well behind. You are playing
for survival! If you were lucky enough to be dealt cards generating a winning hand, stick with those.
Otherwise, evaluate for hands one away, starting with a royal flush or straight flush. Failing that,
play a pair, if you have it. Next, try for the flush or straight. Now start pulling a rabbit out of a hat
looking for 2 cards to complete a straight flush. As a last result, dump all 5 cards!
If you plan on playing video poker seriously - get to know the statistics and true optimal strategy. But
if you are a casual video poker player. Relax. Have fun! It is best to have some knowledge of correct
strategy - but running on intuition or going for the big score can be exhilirating - and it only takes one
big win to wipe out many struggles! Just keep it within your budget and bet cautiously to conserve your bankroll.
